This project was our first collaboration with the Smart and Digital City Office of Montreal, to present the latest local innovations towards improved urban mobility, services to citizens, democratic processes, economic development and the overall quality of life. Oui!
A giant model map of Montreal, augmented with video-projection, encouraged the collaborative discovery of local Smart City initiatives. By tilting the map in every direction, participants guided a rolling marble throughout the cut-out city maze. The marble triggered animations as it reached highlighted locations.
Through these animations, visitors discover simulations of the many ways data orchestrates the everyday life of the city: from real-time orientation of the traffic, to planning of snow removal, qualitative evaluation of neighbourhoods, transparency of public budgets or electrification of public transportation.
The project was at the heart of the Montreal Pavilion we designed for Smart City area at the International Transportation System (ITS) World Congress, where Montreal was showcased with 5 other top smart cities in the world.
