The Smart City Game

Montréal, CA

A collaboration between the City of Montreal’s Smart City Office and Daily, this big scale game indexes a series of innovative urban initiatives for the smart city on an interactive map of Montreal.

Playing the City

The map works like a large-scale labyrinth game: players must coordinate to roll the ball from one point to another and try to reach different targets. When successful, a projection starts on the board, explaining one local innovation. This project was presented at an international conference and helped participants break the ice over as they roll their way through downtown Montreal.

Data Storytelling

Working with the city’s team, Daily collected and analyzed datasets from a number of Montreal’s public utilities and private companies in various industries: transport, culture, energy, artificial intelligence and entertainment. This collection of data fed the scenarios of the projection and allowed us to accurately highlight some local smart city initiatives.
