KM3

Quartier des spectacles, Montréal, CA

On the occasion of the 375th anniversary of the City of Montreal, the Quartier des Spectacles invited Daily tous les jours to curate and create the scenography for KM3, a temporary public art exhibition featuring some 20 unpublished works in this effervescent area in the heart of downtown.

Collectives Stories

Public spaces with busy people rushing through are the inspiration and origin for KM3. How can these busy streets become places where people can connect, through a shifting of perspectives? Daily tous les jours sought to bring about this reformation of the city in all sorts of ways: by an unexpected detour into an alley or inner courtyard; by a work that transforms the feel an iconic place; by a diversity of artistic practices that invite exploration and exchange.

The Project

The KM3  journey presents a series of works that humanize the urban infrastructure and encourage conversations about ways of living in cities, the presence of nature in this environment, History and possible futures. Creators were invited from very different areas of practice to contribute to this collective reflection. Whether they are used to working in the public spaces or not at all, many are coming from creative disciplines that do not always get a seat at the table to discuss the future of cities. And yet. Choreographers can rethink our daily movements. Game designers can be placemakers. New media artists can connect passersby. Fashion designers can revisit architecture.

Window on the Street

To outline the art pieces and the exhibition scenography, Daily designed coloured “panel-window-shelves” which were attached to the city’s infrastructure like real street signs. By looking through their frames, visitors can appreciate a new specific point of view of the installations. The shelved part invites people to stop and take the time to discover its story.
