Hotline was created for the Portland Art Museum’s annual Shine a Light event – an evening which asks artists and visitors to rethink what’s possible in a museum.
Hotline lets people in the galleries pick up a phone and ask any question they want about art. Meanwhile in an upstairs library, an all-star cast of volunteer artists, curators, museum docents, education teams, and the head of collections manned phones to take the calls. The setup lets people get past their ‘I don’t get it’ moments, which allows them to be a bit more playful and gain insight from super smart and friendly people from the art world.
All questions posed during the night were taped on the wall, to log the growing list (and to capture all the thoughts & conversations coming out of exhibits and events).
