Bring your memories. Forget your manners. Chew on your tastes. Swallow your stories. Storytelling and taste are one and the same. You will eat with your ears and your heart.
Food is more than taste. It is culture, memories, identity. We are creatures of habits, and food is probably where it is more engrained. Restaurant culture was founded on the principle of repeating the same dish to ‘perfection’. With less and less food for more and more people crowding this planet, we are seeking a new relationship to food, one where we are agile in experimentation, one where we are fearless and creative.
Food session is conceived as a pop-up installation, complimentary to any food experience, whether it be at a restaurant, a special event banquet, a food truck. It is a large banquet where guests share a meal while wearing headphones for a guided meditation on food. Together participants explore ways to eat with all their senses and opening up their imagination, calling on their memories. A series of exercises challenge participants’ relationships with the food they consume and the people they share it with. It is an interactive food and sound installation that feels like a silent disco for your tongue.
It’s also a meal where using your phone is ok. Guests text impressions and memories to a screen, making the experience constantly shifting between individual and collective moments.
Food Sessions is a pop-up installation, it is presented next as part of Citi Summer Streets in New York City on August 5, 12, 19.
Past presentations include Montréal, Biarritz, San Francisco.
